145 Years and Still Standing Strong
Flood clean-up started this week at the Caseyville Methodist Church. Approximately six inches of water covered the floors despite intense volunteer sandbagging and pumping efforts. “The water came over the sand bags and we just could not do anything else,” stated a Job Corps volunteer. “I love this church. This is where I was raised,” said volunteer worker Brain Omer. Omer and others manned the pumps night and day before flood water exceeded the sand bagging. Earle C. Clements Job Corps deckhand students moved all pews out church windows Tuesday and pulled up all water soaked carpet. Total damage has not been formally assessed. Floors under the carpet have buckled and damage to the piano and other furnishes is considered serious. Back water nearly covered the air conditioning unit. Anyone who would like to date to the recovery project for the 145 year old church may do so at Integra Bank, Caseyville Methodist Church account.
